A Christmas Carol BroadwaySF’s Golden Gate Theatre usually hosts touring companies of actors from all over the country and beyond. But A Christmas Carol not only rehearsed locally but also cast a bevy of Bay Area actors in its ensemble. That means Samuel Faustine, Rodney Earl Jackson Jr, Annie Sherman, Monica Ho, Ash Malloy, Colin Thompson, Ben Beckley and Wiley Naman Strasser all get to perform on one of the Bay Area’s grandest stages. Jack Thorne’s music-filled adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novella, which won five 2020 Tony Awards, is known for painting Ebenezer Scrooge less as an out-and-out monster and more as a harried businessman. He’s harder to distance yourself from, harder to peremptorily condemn, when he reminds you of someone you might hasten past in the Financial District.

With a cast of talented singers and a live orchestra, this opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte is a delightful way to spend an evening. This is your chance to see the production in a wonderful setting in one of the world’s best opera houses.
Originally written in 1790, this opera is famous for its clever use of recitatives and arias. Così Fan Tutte is about two young men who are in love with two sisters engaged in a battle in order to win the heart of their lovers. This is a story of two friends, Ferrando and Guglielmo, who are determined to test the fidelity of their girlfriends, Dorabella and Fiordiligi. The production of Così Fan Tutte is directed by Michael Cavanagh and conducted by Henrik Nánási, a famous conductor with a stellar ensemble—featuring Nicole Cabell, Irene Roberts, Benjamin Bliss, John Brancy, Ferruccio Furlanetto, and Nicole Heaston. The opera is in Italian and is performed in its original language.

Interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, just as every other theater in the country, ACT was forced to close its doors in March 2020. In her one-woman show, Until the Flood, Orlandersmith captures the raw and emotional reactions of the people and the nation, and the events surrounding the shooting and the ensuing protests and riots that shook the nation and the world. Her research and interviews explore the racial and social tensions.
