Mahler famously said that a “symphony must be like the world. It must embrace everything.” His massive Third Symphony fulfills this belief by encompassing the vastness of nature, expressing in turn the elemental forces of life, the flowers in the meadow and the animals in the forest before reaching beyond the earthly realm to depict the heavens and love itself.
