Elim Chan Conducts Beethoven & Barber

May 16–18
Benaroya Hall

Elim Chan

Conductor Elim Chan leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s bold First Symphony and Seattle favorite James Ehnes returns to perform Barber’s radiant Violin Concerto. Beethoven’s First Symphony is an homage to Viennese traditions that also introduced his own revolutionary techniques to the classical canon. Barber’s Violin Concerto follows up its first two lyrical, melodic movements with a virtuosic, break-neck speed finale. The program is rounded out by Unsuk Chin’s subito con forza, written for Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year and inspired by the late composer’s conversation books.
