This performance has been canceled.

With the ground-shaking thunder of a revival meeting an electrifying gospel and blues score, The Gospel at Colonus is an exuberant re-telling of Sophocles’ great ancient myth, Oedipus at Colonus. Featuring the soaring voices of a great choir drawn from the best of regional churches, and the most powerful soloists on the West Coast, Musical Director Darriel Menefee leads the thrilling music tale set in the context of a Black evangelical service.

The Gospel at Colonus follows one of the most important stories in theater history: the 2,400 year old myth of Oedipus, as told near the end of his life at the ancient city of Colonus. Oedipus is at an existential intersection, wrestling with forgiveness, redemption, life, and love. The Gospel at Colonus is a riveting parable from beginning to end. Conceived and adapted by MacArthur Genius award winner Lee Breuer with music composed, arranged, and directed by Academy Award nominee Bob Telson, this is a one-of-a-kind show featuring more than 40 local vocalists.
