Variety/Varieté (1925), directed by E.A. Dupont, stars Emil Jannings and Lya De Putti in Germany’s most successful movie of the year. Its melodramatic love triangle between acrobats features cinematographer Karl Freund’s innovating “unchained camera technique” at the circus. Commissioned score composed by Amy Denio with live performance by Amy Denio Ensemble.
