Silent Movie Mondays: Laila

Laila (1929) tells the story of a baby separated from her parents and raised by a wealthy reindeer owner in the frozen tundra. She grows into a young woman of two worlds, torn between two suitors and two cultures—the Sami/Indigenous people and the dominant white Norwegians. Based on a literary work, this film is expertly photographed with a modern cinematic flair. Musical accompaniment by Tedde Gibson on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.
