Election

Each week, Stanford Under the Stars: Movie Nights at Frost brings a selection of movies featuring actors who attended Stanford or various Stanford and Northern California filming locations. Opening weekend screenings highlight Reese Witherspoon who studied English literature at Stanford in the mid-1990s before leaving to pursue a career in acting. In 2017, Witherspoon returned to campus for the View from the Top speaker series hosted by Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. In addition to Election, the series will screen Sing and Walk the Line.
Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), a well-liked high school government teacher, can’t help but notice that successful student Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) uses less than ethical tactics to get what she wants. When Tracy runs for school president, Jim feels that she will be a poor influence on the student body and convinces Paul, a dim-witted but popular student athlete, to run against Tracy. When she becomes aware of Jim’s secret involvement in the race, a bitter feud is sparked.
